Why should I join?
Pony Club does an excellent job of developing leadership skills, independence, and responsibility. Children learn the importance and necessity of planning ahead, and how to think quickly in a sticky situation. As with any club setting, conflicts are bound to arise, and kids learn to deal with and overcome these problems in a diplomatic, orderly fashion. They make lifetime friends and learn skills that will be useful no matter what they do in life. Pony Club provides a setting for both mental and social growth, providing children with outstanding opportunities to learn public speaking skills, one-on-one interview abilities, how to work with a team, lead a group, and apply information they have learned to a real situation.
FAQ's
Do I need my own horse to join Pony Club?
- No. While it is much easier for a member to own a horse, the only requirement is that the rider will have access to a horse or pony which will be available to them for rallies, mounted meetings, and ratings.
How old are members in Pony Club?
- Members range from ages five to twenty-one. An age extension being tested which would raise the maximum age to 25. Due to the nature of Pony Club, you must take an individual look at each child to decide whether your child is ready for the pony club experience at a young age. The amount of independence needed for each child requires more maturity than some young children possess, but if your child can handle it, Pony club is a great place to learn from older members and develop skills needed for other areas in life.
What type of riding does Pony Club teach?
- Pony club teaches "balanced seat" English riding, which includes riding on the flat (dressage) and jumping (stadium and cross country). Most Pony Clubbers aim to or do compete in eventing, which is a combined show which combines all three of these phases.
Also, Pony Clubbers are taught and participate in many other English disciplines, which are: eventing, dressage, show jumping, mounted games, tetrathlon, quiz, vaulting, foxhunting and polocrosse.
